Simon Woodward Charity Venture

Over the past several years, Simon (N. Harrow HG Club) has taken part in (masochistic) enterprises raising considerable funds for a local cancer charity as well as for  The Paul Hunter Foundation.

Simon has volunteered again.

Apparently, there is to be a "SPONSORED HEAD SHAVING" in aid of The Paul Hunter Foundation to take place in the Cue Zone during the World Championship at Sheffield on 29-Apr-2012. More details will be posted here when they become available.

Anyone wishing to donate towards this very worthwhile cause (and of course to encourage Simon to humiliate himself) is asked to contact him personally or by e-mail via the link specially set up on the League's CONTACT US page.

Match Secretary

The Match Secretary, Geraint Williams, has indicated that pressure of work is forcing him to seriously consider his position in this role. Ideally, he would like to hand over to someone else as soon as possible but is willing to continue until the AGM in May 2012 at the very latest.

Anyone wanting more information or who would be willing to take over either immediately or at the next AGM or possibly to "shadow" Geraint with a gradual handover, is asked to contact the League's Chairman, Dave Rose, either directly or by e-mail via the "General Contact" link on the League's CONTACT US page.

Alternatively, if anyone wants more information please contact either the Chairman (as above) or the Match Secretary himself.

This is a vitally important role; put bluntly, no Match Secretary no League.

Andy Spreadborough will continue as Competitions Administrator, handling all knockout competitions (including the Poore Cup).

2011/12 SEASON

The Match Secretary has published the fixtures for the forthcoming season and distributed them to Club Representatives. They have been reproduced in the appropriate sections of this website. In addition, the following explanatory notes and instructions have been issued :-

NOTES FOR THE 2011/12 SEASON

This season the league comprises 35 teams across 5 divisions of 7 teams each.

As a result of the decrease in number of teams, it has been necessary to demote more than the 'usual' bottom two places in order to maintain 5 divisions of equal proportion. However, it was felt by the Committee that this was a better scenario than resorting back to 4 divisions (with three made up of 9 teams) and causing the possibility of fixture congestion as some teams commented upon two seasons ago.

Andy Spreadborough will again act as Competitions Administrator as in the second half of last season and will be issuing the competition draws in due course.

WOULD EVERY CLUB REPRESENTATIVE, TEAM CAPTAIN, AND PARTICIPANT IN THE INDIVIDUAL AND PAIRS COMPETITIONS, PLEASE READ AND DIGEST THE FOLLOWING NOTES. NO EXCUSE WILL BE ACCEPTED FROM THOSE WHO DO NOT COMPLY.

COMMITTEE POSITION

Two vacancies have arisen on the Committee and anyone with an interest in contributing to the running of the league should contact the League Secretary Jonny Waters.

SINGLES & DOUBLES COMPETITIONS

It is the responsibility of both parties to arrange the matches. Failure to do so, or failure to notify the Competitions Administrator, Andy Spreadborough, of the result within the appropriate time, will result in both players or pairs being scratched from the competition. There are no “to be played by” dates, only “results must be received by” dates. Please note that NO time extensions will be allowed. These rules will be STRICTLY enforced.

The Dwyer Bowl competition will again follow a “results must be received by” date policy. Once again, this rule will be STRICTLY enforced.   YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !!

The dates for the semi-finals and finals of the singles and pairs competitions are shown on the fixture lists.

TEAM PERSONNEL

The first match scorecard of the season will be a strong indicator of team personnel for the duration of the season to qualify any players who are likely to represent more than one team at a specific club. For instance, if a regular "B" team player wishes to play 'up' for the "A" team as a substitute in the opening match, this must be clearly stated on the scorecard or communicated to the Match Secretary. (See Snooker League Rule 1c).

LEAGUE FEES

Please note amendment to General Rule 8. There are a few clubs with outstanding fees and it should be noted that late payment of fees may result in points being deducted or disqualification.

MOBILE PHONES

Please ensure that all mobile phones are switched off during matches

MATCH CARDS

Match Cards will be delivered before the start of the season

PRESENTATION NIGHT 2011

This was held on Saturday 4th. June 2011 at the FAIRVIEW CLUB. Guest professional MARK J WILLIAMS played 10 frames against Harrow League players chosen to represent divisional winning teams or were winners of individual competitions. Mark entertained the assembled company to some magnificent snooker including breaks of 95 (offering his opponent the opportunity to pot the final black - which he did) a 142, and a 120 missing a difficult middle pocket yellow with a maximum break on. Harrow's individual champion, Martin O'Donnell, was the only Harrow winner on the night, his 65 break being just sufficient to see him home.

We were pleased to welcome some representatives of our friends (and rivals!) from the neighbouring Thames Valley league.

Congratulations and thanks are due to organiser, Steve Russell and his team for putting on yet another most enjoyable evening.

Chairman Dave Rose took a number of photographs which can be viewed as "web friendly" resolution images by clicking here. If anyone would like a full resolution copy, please contact the Chairman by e-mail via the link specially set up on the League's CONTACT US page, specifying which image is required.
