WEBSITE COOKIES & PRIVACY POLICY
WHAT ARE COOKIES?
Cookies are small pieces of code that are copied to your device (Desktop, Notebook, Tablet, Smartphone etc.) when you access the website.
Cookies are harmless but unless their use is accepted the website may not work properly.
Essentially, there are two types of cookie - Internal and External :-
- Internal - those that are generated by the website itself.
- External - those that originate from external systems that the website uses.
WHY DOES THIS WEBSITE USE COOKIES?
Internal Cookies
- To manage logged on sessions. This enables the website to keep track of Users logged on to the Detailed and Inter-League Directories so that they can be timed out after a predetermined period of inactivity.
- To monitor the time between sessions that a particular User/Device has been logged out. If this is less than a predetermined period (currently set to 30 minutes) the Visit Count (displayed on the Welcome page) is not updated.
- To keep track of whether a User has consented to use the website despite it using cookies.
External Cookies
- The website uses Google Maps to display the location of Venues in the Directories pages. The Google Maps application needs to use cookies for this to be achieved.
- The website uses Google Analytics, a system that records detailed information about Users' access including, amongst many other items :-
- the type of device (eg Desktop, Notebook, Tablet, Smartphone etc.) used.
- the Browser used (eg IE, Chrome, Safari etc.)
- the general geographical locations of Users
It is strongly emphasised that information that may identify a User is NOT captured.
OUR PRIVACY POLICY
Great care was taken when designing and building this website to ensure that individuals' personal information (Addresses, Telephone Numbers, E-Mail Addresses etc.) are not displayed without expressed permission having been given.
Club Representatives, Team Captains and Players in individual competitions are required to give some of this information to appropriate authorities (eg the League's Match and Competitions Secretaries). By doing so, it is assumed that permission has been given for this information to be accessible but only to those directly associated with the HDSBL.
In order to observe and maintain this confidentiality, the following measures are in place :-
- All personal data supplied by Club Representatives, Team Captains and Players is held in a secure MySQL database maintained by, and accessible only to, the site's Webmaster (a Member of the HDSBL Committee).
- Personal data that needs to be input or displayed (eg via the Contact Us, Detailed or Inter-League Directory pages) is sent over a secure HTTPS SSL connection with 1024bit encryption. This is the same technology that is used for internet banking. A padlock symbol displayed within the web browser indicates that a web page has been secured using this technology.
- League Officials' E-mail addresses are not displayed when using the Contact Us page of the website. E-mails generated via this page are automatically redirected to the appropriate recipients' personal E-mail accounts.
